NAS Releases "Science, Evolution, and Creationism"

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) will jointly release a new publication, Science, Evolution, and Creationism, at 11:00 AM EST on Friday, January 4, 2008. Members of the Clergy Letter Project who live in the Washington, DC area are cordially invited to the one hour public briefing for the release of this booklet, which will take place in the Lecture Room of the National Academy of Sciences Building, 2100 C Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. NAS President Ralph J. Cicerone, IOM President Harvey V. Fineberg, and a panel of members from the authoring committee, including Drs. Francisco Ayala (committee chair), University of California, Irvine; Bruce Alberts, University of California San Francisco and former president of the NAS; Gilbert Omenn, University of Michigan and former president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and Toby Horn, Carnegie Institution of Washington and immediate past president of the National Association of Biology Teachers will discuss the booklet and respond to questions.

Those who cannot attend may either listen to a live audio webcast and submit questions using an e-mail form that will be available at the NAS website on January 4 or to a recording of the event shortly afterward at this same website.

Copies of Science, Evolution, and Creationism and a complementary eight page brochure will be given out at the release event. After the event, the booklet and brochure will be available for purchase or for free electronic download. A brief description of Science, Evolution, and Creationism is provided below.
